we did it :)
Monday 20th May 2024The sun was shining, although it was still cold on the way to Cheltenham. Surprising how cold the wind is when it's only 11 degrees out 🥶. We took the longest route possible around back-roads and villages / towns. We passed several other groups riding to their local DGR event, and also got some great support from other bikers who saw us. We picked up a few others on the route and eventually made it to the meeting point - and in a better state than last time! 😁
Sadly no blazers that fitted from tadders charity shop! So I am going to keep hunting throughout this year rafter than leaving it to the week before and will 100% make sure I have one that fits for next year! I did try a blazer on I had but with the extra layers underneath it was like a corset 😂 I couldn't have possibly ridden a motorbike in it 😂
This year in Cheltenham was the biggest yet - over 200 bikes / riders attended vs last years 60 or so! It was an amazing turnout, and as of the day of the ride just over £17,000 had been raised for charity! Which continues to rise.
After everyone lining up and catching up, we grabbed a quick coffee to warm up, and then attended a briefing out in the sunshine in the open at Queens Park. A few police were also in attendance this year on their police bikes, they helped to stop traffic so everyone could get out safely, and together.
We set off out of Cheltenham, and were invited to stop off at Sudley Castle, on the way we took a route out of Cheltenham and through several other villages - we passed lots of people waving, filming and cheering / supporting the ride which was great to see.
After a stop off at Sudley to regroup, coffee and cake and a few photos we moved on, riding back through Sudley and the countryside back in a loop through through some more villages back to Cheltenham, and then eventually stopped off at Dunkertons, where we finished up with some much needed lunch to catch up with everyone and the organisers to wrap up the day.
We then split off in our own groups and rode back through Cheltenham, the Fosseway, Bourton, Cirencester, North Cerney, South Cerney, Ashton Keynes and home.
Thanks again to my sponsors and I look forward to doing it again next year :)
time flies!
Thursday 16th May 2024Thanks guys for the sponsors! Really appreciated :D
I'm off to look for a blazer tonight at the local charity shop - fingers crossed!
Weather looks OK, in fact better than last year - we all under dressed last year (no base layer, just a thin shirt) and it was 7 degrees plus a 50 odd mile an hour wind at 7am when we set out which froze us by the time we got to the ride 😂
One of my friends Joe didn't stop shivering for about an hour when we arrived!! I ran off to find him a coffee and some food to try and warm him up while his teeth were chattering 😂🥶
Lesson learned - layer up under neath this time!
There's four of us going and supporting this year. Hopefully the locals of the villages / towns we pass will be out supporting and posting on social media to raise awareness during mental health week :)
I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride
Tuesday 26th Mar 2024 On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives. My Sponsors
