Men’s Mental Health
Wednesday 17th Apr 2024Hello fellow riders, bike fans, and men (as well as those who love the men in their lives).
Thank you for supporting me, either with a few quid or a hardy cheer. Supporting men's mental health is personally important to me.
When I was a teenager, I lost my father to suicide, a purely preventable death if he received the care he required. He struggled with various periods of mental ill-health until he couldn't cope.
This is a reality for countless men, who live in a culture and society that doesn't allow for nurturing their self-love or supporting them when things become seemingly impossible.
I've struggled with bouts of mental ill-health as well, and thankfully things are changing, with access to mental health care and support groups more readily available and easier to access.
But plenty of men out there don't know how to speak about the issues they face, nor do they even know how to recognise where there are problems or why they feel the way they do.
I can speak a lot about this, and have begun to dedicate my life to changing things for the next generation of men. Currently I work in a primary school setting, supporting children's mental health as part of an SEN team. Children are under a huge amount of stress now more than ever, with the always online nature of life causing them to grow up faster than when I was small.
These vulnerable children, in particularly boys, need an environment that is not only nurturing to meeting their physical and mental health needs, but also encouraging to make sure they speak up and never stay silent.
Thank you again for any support you can give in raising money for this very important issue. My father's death can't be reversed, but the boys of today can avoid such a fate.
Many thanks,
Connor
I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride
Thursday 28th Mar 2024 On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives. My Sponsors
