DGR GUILDFORD OFFICIAL ROUND UP

Friday 24th May 2024

Hi all,

First things first, thank you so much for registering and riding in this year's Guildford DGR. It is by some margin our largest yet. Second in the UK and, I think, 5th largest worldwide. Well done you!

We had, on the day, 720 odd bikes and pillions and have, so far, raised a fraction under £50,000 with donations still coming in. It's not too late to add to that total...

Our official 2024 video is out already. The extremely talented Luke Whatley-Bigg worked through the night editing this for us and, I have to say, I don't think he's done a bad job! Take a look here...

https://youtu.be/NERJ_7iQB34

... and tell me what you think.

We're already planning next year's ride and if you think you can help in any way then PLEASE get in touch. It takes a lot of volunteers to make an event of this size happen and we'd love to hear from you.

Once again, thank you all so much for helping make the Guildford ride the event that it has become. Look forward to seeing you all next year.

Nigel.
Ride host for Guildford DGR.

The ride is Done, THANK YOU (Donations close 2 June)

Friday 24th May 2024

Well what can I say apart from a massive THANK YOU!!

In total we have so far raised £2211 for Movember, which is totally amazing 🤩

Please follow the link below to watch the official Guildford Distinguished Gentleman's Ride video:

Again thank you everyone for the support you have given to both the charity and me. See you all next year☺️

What does your support fund?

Saturday 18th May 2024

Funds raised by The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride are invested into prostate cancer and men’s mental health initiatives around the world through our official charity partner, Movember.

Veterans & First Responders Programs

First responders and military veterans are at greater risk than the general population for both poor mental health and suicide.  Programs that are designed to support these groups, which are properly validated and backed by strong evidence, could improve, or even save lives. Through the Veterans & First Responders Program (VFR), DGR has provided support for community-based programs that improve support for veterans and first responders across the United Kingdom, Australia, United States, Canada, New Zealand and Ireland.

Biomedical research

Thanks to DGR support, Movember has been able to support a range of biomedical research projects around the world aimed at improving the quality of life, or even extending the lives of men with the disease. DGR finding has supported precision medicine projects that aim to help doctors select treatments that are matched to a man’s prostate cancer such as PARP inhibitors or PSMA-targeted radiation therapy, giving him the chance of surviving the disease for longer. Personalised care also reduces the number of men wasting time on treatments that will never work for them and focus instead on treatments with the greatest chance of success.

Come and view the bikes and support the ride - Please 🙂

Friday 17th May 2024

We've got a great ride leaving Guildford High Street at 10:30 on 19 May 2024.

We'll be rolling through various picturesque Surrey villages. The first to Loseley House.

After around an hour we'll depart for another gentle ride, a longer  second leg to the Hog's Back Brewery for food, beer and entertainment provided by the Blues Cafe Band.  5% of money raised at the Hogs Back will go to the charity.

Come along and see over 600 vintage and vintage style motorcycles and Let's all have a great time and keep raising those much needed funds!

SIDE BY SIDE, WORLDWIDE: THE 2024 DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN’S RIDE AIMS FOR 1000 RIDES IN SUPPORT OF MEN’S HEALTH

Friday 17th May 2024

On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) is coming to a city near you. The world’s largest charity event for classic and vintage motorcycle enthusiasts will return to raise funds for men’s health in style. This year, the DGR is calling on riders from across the globe to join forces for a monumental push towards hosting 1000 rides simultaneously, in line with its “Side by Side, Worldwide” campaign. The campaign looks to highlight the thousands of riders who ride together all around the world for a unified cause.

As the world comes together to address the crucial issue of men’s health, the 2024 Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride aims to create a powerful, united front by encouraging riders from different corners of the world to participate side by side on the same day. The “Side by Side, Worldwide” theme embodies the spirit of unity, emphasizing the global impact that can be achieved when individuals unite for a common cause.

“In 2024, we have set ourselves the goal of reaching 1000 cities around the world,” says Founder and Director of The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, Mark Hawwa. “We have ridden with each other on the same day all around the world since 2012. Our community is one that comes together, despite borders and oceans, riding side by side to raise increasingly critical funds and awareness for men’s mental health and prostate cancer. DGR 2024 is the year that we celebrate our fellow gentlefolk around the world that we ride alongside, united by a passion, and driven by the cause.”

Partners Triumph Motorcycles return to continue their global support of the charity motorcycling event with collaborative merchandise featuring both the DGR and Triumph brands, as well as rewarding the event’s highest fundraisers with brand new modern classic motorcycles. Reserved for the highest fundraiser of 2024 will be a celebration of one of the most iconic Triumph models ever made, The Thruxton 1200 Final Edition.

Paul Stroud, Chief Commercial Officer, Triumph Motorcycles added: “We share the DGR’s ambitious goal for 2024; to bring even more riders together, in more places around the globe, to raise even more money for men’s mental health and prostate cancer. We are working side by side with the DGR and our growing global dealer network to help achieve 1000 Rides. This year, we will be rewarding the highest fundraiser with an iconic motorcycle; the Thruxton 1200 Final Edition, as well as donating a number of prizes to Team Triumph fundraisers. In this way, we hope to unite and inspire Triumph riders across the world on 19 May to join Team Triumph, dress dapper, raise money and enjoy the ride.”

Hedon Helmets, ELF Lubricants, and Quad Lock will also be rejoining the classic inspired charity event, with Consolidated Motor Spares (CMSNL.com) also joining as the newest global sponsor, further rewarding the efforts of the year’s fundraisers.

Riders are encouraged to fundraise for the cause, with all proceeds going to Movember’s men’s mental health and prostate cancer initiatives. The DGR has consistently played a vital role in raising funds and awareness, and this year’s campaign is no exception.

Please sponsor me to ride in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride-for Movember

Friday 3rd May 2024

On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride through the Surrey Hills.  This event will simultaneously take place across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember.  The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
