Riding with Purpose: Why This Year’s DGR Hits Closer to Home
Saturday 29th Mar 2025Since my first Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, where I joined the global effort to raise funds for men’s health, life has taken an unexpected turn. Not long after that ride, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The irony wasn’t lost on me—riding to raise awareness one year, and suddenly becoming part of the very cause the next.
The diagnosis came after a painful biopsy revealed a Gleason score of 9—aggressive, and already threatening nearby tissue. There was no time to lose. Holidays, work trips, plans—they all had to be paused or cancelled. My life shifted overnight.
But perhaps the biggest shift was internal. My perspective on time, purpose, and what really matters changed profoundly. We all know life is finite, but now I felt it in every decision. That awareness doesn’t overwhelm me—it grounds me. It’s like a dipstick I use to check where my energy and priorities should go.
I’ve since attended support groups and online forums for prostate cancer. I’m often one of the younger ones there. I’ve witnessed men from the Great Generation and Boomers open up—some quiet, some anxious, some simply overwhelmed. Their honesty has been humbling.
Research funding is critical. We need better treatments, earlier detection, and improved quality of life for those affected. But just as vital is the support for mental health. A positive mindset, community, and emotional support can make all the difference when facing a diagnosis like this.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride raises money every year for both prostate cancer research and men’s mental health initiatives. They’re transparent about how the funds are used—and every contribution counts, no matter the size.
This year, I ride again. With a deeper reason. And I invite you to support the cause. For men’s health. For someone you know. Maybe even for yourself.

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride
Monday 24th Mar 2025 On Sunday the 18th of May 2025, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
