Thirty-five superstars have donated over $1600 to DGR

Tuesday 21st May 2024

Three cheers for the superstars that have donated over $1600 to the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. Your support has been outstanding, and I wanted to let you know that I had an awesome day at the Cairns Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride on Sunday 19th May 2024.

About 100 bikes met at Cairns Esplanade for a sunny ride which ended with all the bikes lined up in the carpark of Macalister Brewery in Smithfield.

The ride down the Kuranda range was real blast – all the bikes bunched up and cruising together. Harley on the left, classic Kawasaki sports bike up ahead and rainforest all around.

As we got back to Smithfield, I peeled off and picked up Lindy from home. We headed back to Macalister’s to check out the bikes, have some lunch and soak up the chill vibes. Such great fun.

You look like John Wick!!!

Tuesday 21st May 2024

"You look like John Wick!!!" the lady exclaimed when I walked into her juice bar. "I'm sorry if its rude but you really look like John Wick....I'm gonna tell all my friends that Keanu Reeves was in my shop today!!!"

"That's ok" I said.  "You wouldn't have any coffee would you?"

"Only Instant and you dont want to drink that!!!"

So I went next door and purchased a delicious iced coffee and checked out some more bikes...

Cheeky snap of my bike in Kuranda

Monday 20th May 2024

100 bikes rode out of Cairns and up the range to Kuranda. Cruising up the range through the rainforest following an old BMW was very cool. We did a lap of town and waved at the tourists before settling in clusters on the available space in the middle of town.

I couldn't help but get a cheeky snap of my bike (its the one with the gold stars on the windscreen), before going in search of coffee.

The Cape York Connection at the Grand Depart

Monday 20th May 2024

I caught up with David Preece and Toby Eastoe at the Cairns Esplanade for the grand depart.

Toby, Dave and I have all worked for Cape York NRM and it was cool to be able to check out the bikes.

Between us we represnted three important marques - Triumph, Ducati and Royal Enfield.

Looking the part, we fitted right in with the 100 other dapper gentlefolk that turned out to ride on a glorious sunny day.

The best part is i made some new new connections with people by yarning about the bikes...so many great people to chat to.

Thumbs up - Lets Go!!!

Monday 20th May 2024

All dressed up and ready to roll!!!

Off we go to the 2024 Distinguished Gentlemans Ride in Cairns.

One Week to Go!!!

Sunday 12th May 2024
So I have been making a few little modifications to my bike over the last two weekends:

Firstly,  I cut down the windshield and painted it black and also made a shorty front mudguard (to make it look more old school scrambler style) to fit in with the themes of Distinguished Gentleman's Ride.

Secondly, and most importantly, I have added 21 gold stars to the bike to brighten up the day. One star for everyone who has donated to the ride - thanks so much for your generosity - you are the real stars of DGR!!!

Take care out there,

Will

The weather in Cairns is better for riding again!!!

Tuesday 23rd Apr 2024

Hi there,

Hope you are going good. The wet season has slowed down a bit up in Cairns and I have been getting out on the motorbike a bit more.

I only got my motorcycle license 18 months ago as part of my getting older = need to learn new things to enhance brain plasticity etc (that's my excuse anyway).  It has been a rapid learning curve and I have found it to be a great activity to enhance mindfulness by engaging the moment.... and for socialising and meeting new people by going on group rides.

I love riding the bike - if I've got 2 hours free on the weekend (when Lindy is studying)- I check the BOM radar and head off. Cruising along the coast up to Port Douglas or winding through the Wet Tropics rainforest on backroads is like a dream.

This year I am taking part in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride to raise funds and awareness for men's health on behalf of Movember. I'll be getting dressed up in my most dapper attire and tootling along from Cairns to Kuranda and back on the 19th May 2024.

Men are typically hopeless at looking after their health, but Movember have encouraged men to get checked out for prostate cancer and seek help for depression.

If you had a spare dollar then you could consider supporting Movember and making a donation.

No pressure from me - I mainly used this blog to give you an update on my motorcycling antics.

Take care and have fun out there.

Will

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Wednesday 27th Mar 2024 On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
